Interior and Design
The new BMW ev iX vehicle model has garnered a lot of attention with its questionable exterior design. The xDrive50 comes with a 100 kWh battery that gives it an actual range of 373 miles on a full charge, while the xDrive40 has a smaller 70 kWh battery that only provides it with a range of 249 miles. In comparison, the Model X can travel for 340 miles or 360 miles in its Long Range guise.
Both the iX cars can go from 10-80 percent of charge at speeds that are much faster than most other electric vehicles on the market today. The xDrive 50 is the fastest overall, taking just 10 minutes to charge up to 75 miles. The xDrive 40 is not far behind, adding 56 miles in the same amount of time.
The United States iX and i4 owners will be able to receive complimentary access to Electrify America’s charging network. From the date of purchase, owners will be entitled to two years’ worth of 30-minute charging sessions at Electrify America chargers, at no additional cost.
Intelligence panel and iDrive
The iX series is packed with tech, as you would expect for a modern EV. The grille of the intelligence panel houses a large collection of cameras, radar, and sensors used in automated-driving systems. BMW reckons it will be able to process a 20 times higher amount of data compared to previous models.
The new iDrive operating system will debut on the iX range of BMW vehicles. The system features an onboard digital intelligent personal assistant that is designed to make operating the car simpler and more efficient.
BMW i4
Pricing and Availability
The starting price for the BMW i4 is $55,300 for the eDrive 40 model, which only comes with a single electric motor. This is the lowest-spec model available and provides an excellent option for those who are looking for an affordable way to experience all that the i4 has to offer. The performance i4 M50 model from BMW will cost at least $65,900. That price tag makes it more expensive than the entry-level Tesla Model 3, even with all the recent price increases.

Comparison between BMW i4 M50 and eDrive40
The M50 is the first car from BMW M that is purely electric. This performance comes at a price of over $10,000 more than the eDrive 40 models, though many feel that it is worth the extra cost.
The M50’s electric motors will allow it to go from 0-60mph in just 3.9 seconds, thanks to a ‘Sport Boost’ button that makes full use of the 537bhp and 586lb-ft of torque. This is much quicker than the eDrive40, which takes 5.7 seconds to reach the same speed.
The downside of the M50 model is that it is not as efficient, and suffers from the fact that it has the same battery as the eDrive 40.
The cars only differ slightly in design; they both look like they serve the same purpose and have 83.9kWh batteries that can be charged at up to 200kW. However, the slight difference in design is what makes each car unique.
Range, battery, and performance
The BMW i4 is set to use a massive 83.9 kWh battery pack for breathtaking power for the single electric motor. This heavy battery is estimated to weigh around 550kg. As a result, the car will be heavy, but its performance promises to be impressive. The eighth-generation BMW i4 features the company’s most powerful system to date, iDrive control system. Thanks to this system, the i4 can milk the most from its powertrain.
The eDrive40 model with the 18-inch wheel configuration offers an estimated range of 301 miles according to the official EPA range figure. Larger wheels will always cause a reduction in range, so opting for 19-inch rims means that your range will drop to 282 miles.
Meanwhile, the M50 model comes packing a maximum of 270 miles with 19-inch wheels. However, this significantly decreases to 227 miles with 20-inch wheels.
Additionally, the M50 demonstrates what occurs to the limits when you have an automobile that is more performance-based. Even so, the M50’s performance is rather amazing based on what can be heard.
