The driving range is a concern for car shoppers when buying an electric vehicle. Range anxiety is one strong motivating factor and it is due to the fact that your EV may not have the battery charge necessary to complete a journey. Many potential customers are worried that if they travel long distances they will find themselves stranded with a dead battery. While this worry is understandable, it is important to remember that in the real world most people only drive a few miles each day. Even if your car has a relatively short range, it is likely that you will only need to recharge once every week or two. Like running out of gasoline in a conventional car, or electricity in an electric vehicle (EV), is no one’s idea of fun. When an EV has run out of charge, it can be a frustrating and inconvenient experience for the driver.
So after careful consideration, we have gathered 14 new electric vehicles that are currently on sale with published ratings by the EPA for the 2022 model year. This list doesn’t include vehicles that don’t have EPA estimates because the manufacturer estimates don’t cut it. These cars all have range figures of a minimum of 300 miles of total driving, making them ideal choices for long-distance travel. With this information in mind, we hope that you will be able to make an informed decision about which car is right for you and your needs. Whether you’re looking for a long-range cruiser or a short-range commuter, we’ve got you covered.
The starting price listed here are for the specific trim that delivers the best driving range. There may be slight variations in driving range between different trims. Therefore, it is crucial to factor in the driving range of each trim when making your selection. We did not include any potential local, state, or federal electric vehicle (EV) tax incentives in our pricing information. Availability and pricing are subject to change, so be sure to check back for updates. Thank you for reading!

The Lucid Air Dream Edition has replaced the Tesla Model S as the car with the longest range. The Lucid Air is available in several different versions, with the one that can travel the farthest being the Dream R with AWD and 19-inch wheels. This version of the Lucid Air can travel an impressive range of up to 520 miles on a single charge. The Air’s range is even more incredible when compared to other currently available EVs. The lowest-rated model, the high-performance Dream P with the least-efficient 21-inch wheels, still has a healthy 451 miles of range.
2022 Tesla Model S Dual-Motor AWD: Maximum electric driving range: 405 miles
- Price: $96,190, including $1,200 destination
The luxurious, high-performance Tesla Model S has been impressing drivers and passengers since it debuted in 2012. Its sleek design, comfortable seating and powerful electric motor are key factors that make it a popular choice for those looking for an alternative to gas-powered cars. In addition to its environmental benefits, the Model S is also known for its excellent safety record. The rise of the Model S in recent years has been a game-changer for how people think about electric cars. It’s shown that they can be both reliable and affordable, shattering preconceived notions about them. This car has paved the way for a new era of sustainable transportation, and we can only imagine what’s in store for the future. The Model S has excellent handling and acceleration, comparable to some of the world’s quickest sports cars. It also has 19-inch wheels and an EPA-estimated driving range of 405 miles. The Tesla model S Plaid version is more powerful than the standard version, with a maximum electric range of 396 miles. However, if you choose to upgrade to larger 21-inch wheels, the maximum range will be lowered.
2022 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Dual-Motor AWD: Maximum electric driving range: 358 miles
- Price: $47,190, including $1,200 destination
The Tesla Model 3 has a surprisingly large range for its size and price. It might be the little brother to the Model S in terms of overall size, but it doesn’t pale in comparison when it comes to delivering plenty of range. The Long Range trim delivers the most miles per charge and starts at approximately $47,000. This trim is the best choice for those who want to get the most out of their investment. The Standard Range Plus Model 3 is able to deliver a useful 263 miles of range, while the Performance provides 315 miles. This makes the Performance a great choice for those who need the extra range. However, the Long Range version ups this number to 358 miles, making it the most efficient option.
2022 Tesla Model X Dual-Motor AWD: Maximum electric driving range: 351 miles
- Price: $106,190, including $1,200 destination
Tesla’s strong presence on this list is due in part to the range of 351 miles offered by the Model X SUV. The Model X’s windshield is significantly larger than a traditional car’s, and it extends over the front seats. The vehicle also has unique rear Falcon Wing doors that open vertically. These unique features are just some of the reasons why Tesla is one of the most popular car brands today. When you really stop and think about it, the electric motors and lithium-ion battery pack are probably the most normal aspects of the extroverted Model X. The car is otherwise very unique and different from anything else on the road. It’s certainly an attention-grabber, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The standard variant of the Plaid model has less than three seconds to sprint from 0-6 mph, but it has an EPA-suggested 351 miles of driving range. As of January 2022, Tesla will no longer offer the Long Range Plus variant, which had a driving range of 370 miles.
2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS 450: Maximum electric driving range: 350 miles
- Price: $103,360, including $1,050 destination
The 2022 Mercedes-EQ EQS sedan is a new addition to the model year. This luxurious and environmentally friendly vehicle is sure to turn heads with its sleek design and cutting-edge features. The Mercedes EQS is powered by two electric motors that generate a combined output of up to 516 horsepower. The 450 Plus, which has the lowest RWD and single motor in the lineup, has a range of 350 miles. The range-topping 580 model has a reduced range of 10 miles in exchange for an additional motor, all-wheel drive, and more features. We liked both of the Mercedes models, but they used a lot of touch-sensitive controls and there was some problem with the large touchscreen display.
2022 Tesla Model Y Long Range Dual-Motor AWD: Maximum electric driving range: 330 miles
- Price: $60,190, including $1,200 destination
The Tesla Model Y is a mid-size SUV that shares the same platform and powertrain as the Tesla Model 3 sedan. The Model Y was introduced for the 2020 model year and is available in rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations. The Model Y also offers quick steering reflexes and enough power to pin you into your seat during hard acceleration, similar to the Model 3. However, the Model Y has a few additional features that set it apart from the Model 3. These include a larger cargo area and standard all-wheel drive, making it a more versatile vehicle overall. The Performance model has an estimated range of 330 miles and can be used by people looking for the most power.
2022 BMW iX xDrive 50: Maximum electric driving range: 324 miles
- Price: $84,195, including $995 destination
The iX is BMW’s first EV SUV, and it ranks seventh in terms of maximum range at 324 miles. The xDrive50 with 20-inch wheels is the less powerful option, but it can still achieve the same range as the other models. As the size of the wheels increases from 21 to 22 inches, the prices also go up while the range dips. The new iX M60, which is performance-oriented with 22-inch wheels, has an even shorter range than before at just 274 miles. We’re not exactly thrilled with the iX’s touch-sensitive controls, but we’re nevertheless excited to get behind the wheel and give it a spin.
2022 Ford F-150 Lightning: Maximum electric driving range: 320 miles
- Price: $74,269, including $1,795 destination
The much-anticipated F-150 Lightning was originally expected to have a range of around 300 miles. The all-electric version of Ford’s popular F-150 pickup has surpassed the estimate, at least for the Lariat and XLT trims. The option for an extended-range battery pack gives the trucks a range of more than 300 miles. The Lightning’s impressive 320-mile range means that it can compete with many gas-powered trucks on the market. We were very impressed with how much the Lightning manages to feel like a traditional F-150. However, buyers should be aware that they will have to pay a premium for an all-electric F-150 Lightning compared to a similar gas-powered F-150.
2022 Rivian R1S: Max. electric driving range: 316 miles
- Price: $71,075, including $1,075 destination
The R1S SUV is Rivian’s first entry on this list. The automaker’s second vehicle to launch, the R1S SUV is an electric vehicle that is sure to turn heads. With its sleek design and powerful performance, the R1S is sure to be a hit with consumers. The EPA does not have separate range ratings for each option, despite the fact that there are all-terrain tires and multiple wheel sizes and styles to choose from. This is because the range of an electric vehicle is largely dependent on conditions such as weather and terrain, which can vary greatly and are difficult to account for. Therefore, the EPA only provides a general range estimate for each electric vehicle. The R1S has only one range rating, though it’s likely that those choices will impact the overall range.
2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E RWD California Route 1: Maximum electric driving range: 314 miles
- Price: $53,875, including $1,100 destination
The new Ford Mach-E has an EPA-estimated driving range of 314 miles, which is up from the 305 miles offered by the 2021 model. The Mach-E is available in a rear-drive California Route 1 trim, which is perfect for those who want to take advantage of the car’s impressive driving range. With its extended range, the Mach-E offers drivers plenty of flexibility when it comes to planning road trips and errand runs.
2022 Rivian R1T: Max. electric driving range: 314 miles
- Price: $68,575, including $1,075 destination
The Rivian R1T all-electric pickup is right behind its SUV sibling in terms of availability. It is the first fully electric pickup truck of its kind that is currently on sale. This makes it a highly sought-after vehicle for anyone in the market for an electric car. The Large pack battery on the R1T gives it an estimated 314 miles of range, according to the EPA. However, as with the R1S SUV, choices of wheels and tires are likely to have an impact on that number.
2022 Kia EV6 Long Range: Maximum electric driving range: 310 miles

Kia’s first electric vehicle on a dedicated battery-electric vehicle platform, the EV6 is another in the “Is it a hatchback? A wagon? An SUV?” styling category. The EV6 is a sleek and stylish car that combines the best of all worlds. It has the cargo space of a wagon, the passenger space of an SUV, and the sporty look of a hatchback. The RWD Long Range version has 303 miles of range from its 77.4-kilowatt-hour battery pack and 225-horsepower electric motor. This makes it one of the longest-range EVs on the market and gives drivers the confidence to take longer journeys without worrying about running out of charge. L
2022 BMW i4 eDrive40 Gran Coupe: Maximum electric driving range: 301 miles
- Price: $56,295, including $995 destination
BMW has taken the wraps off its other all-electric model, the i4 Gran Coupe. The single-motor RWD eDrive40 has a range of 301 miles when equipped with 18-inch wheels. This makes it the longest-range electric car in BMW’s lineup, behind only the iX3 and iX SUVs. If you want a bigger set of wheels on your iX, be prepared to fork over some extra cash. However, keep in mind that the range on your electric car will be shorter with larger wheels. The iX also has a more powerful eDrive M50 variant that is much quicker and AWD. However, this variant has a shorter range of 227 miles with its larger, optional 20-inch wheels. We are cautiously optimistic about the i4 after our first impressions and think it could be a viable competitor to the Tesla Model 3. The i4 has some impressive features and specifications that make it a strong contender in the electric vehicle market. We look forward to seeing how it performs in the coming months.
